Steven Myhre, Personal Facts

Steven Myhre, has spent most of his life in Florida and Georgia, and currently resides in Tampa. He received at B.A. Degree in Psychology and a M.S. Degree in Audiology from the University of South Florida. He later received a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the Savannah, Georgia branch of the John Marshall Law School. He has had a interesting careers in both audiology and law, and still maintains his membership in the State Bar of Georgia.

Very interested in fitness and anti-aging, it wasn't until he hired his first personal trainer in 1997 that he got interested in making fitness more than just a personal passion. His trainer, body building great, Ron Coleman (Mr. Universe 1994 & 1995), urged him to have photos taken to submit to fitness magazines. Ron thought that Steven had a remarkably youthful physique for his age and thought that good pictures could open some doors. Steven did his first fitness photo shoot in 1997 at the age of 46, but it wasn't until his 50th birthday that a successful photo shoot would change his life forever.

He was not happy about turning 50, but figured that the best way to ring in the "official" beginning of middle age was to have a memorable party. Unfortunately, having a birthday on Labor Day weekend did not leave many friends and family around to hold a party, so Steven decided to have a photo shoot, instead, and at least document what he looked like at the age of 50. His friend, Matteo Vettorazzo, who was "Mr. Italy" in 1999 and 2000, helped pose him for the pictures. Steven's photographer, Brigett Hein wanted to take a few pictures of him standing next to the pool with a white backdrop behind him. Steven was skeptical as the bright sunlight cast a rather harsh shadow on the backdrop…little did any of them know at that moment that a wonderful series of pictures would be created from that scene. The result is the signature photo of the "Fitness For Keeps" video.

Many people think that the picture is touched up, but the only change made to it as it appears on the posters and box covers of "Fitness For Keeps" was to make the shadow less harsh. There was no airbrushing, or any touchups of any kind done to Steven's body in any of these pictures…they are as taken by the camera. The photos are the result of good lighting, excellent body building posing cream and a youthful physique.

That "famous" photo got him a spot in the April/May 2003 issue of "American Health & Fitness" magazine in an article about working out over the age of 50. The picture and that article led to the filming of "Fitness For Keeps" and a whole new life and career for Steven Myhre. He wonders what would have happened if he had hosted a 50th birthday party instead of having the photo shoot…who knows?
